Within the Jackson Five, the young Michael has many times the opportunity to note the discrimination imposed on black American artists. But, at a decisive turning point in his career, the star has the reflex to bet on video and becomes one of the flagship artists of MTV, newly created. The singer's physical transformation then becomes visible: his skin clears up, his face changes in a disturbing way during operations justified by medical necessity. What do these paradoxical changes of identity mean for the first black singer to have conquered the mass of the white public?
